MALLARD GRANGE B&B COVID-19 OPERATING PROCEDURES
LOOKING AFTER OUR GUESTS, OUR SMALL TEAM AND OURSELVES
Covid has changed life for us all and we don't feel ready to relax our guard against Covid yet. We made some changes to the way we do things in 2020 to implement social distancing and health and safety measures and have decided to continue doing so for the foreseeable future. Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to keep us all safe and well, without spoiling the enjoyment of a stay with us.
Mallard Grange is inspected annually by the AA and must maintain extremely high standards of cleanliness to retain our AA 5 Star Rating. We are also inspected by the Food Standards Agency and achieved a 5 Star Food Hygiene Rating (which is the highest rating) for cleanliness and food safety. In addition to which we have achieved an AA COVID-Confident Certification.
To further re-enforce our already robust cleaning practices, we have invested in a fogging machine and a safe, non-irritant, environmentally friendly sanitising agent. This will be used in bedrooms after each stay and in other areas as necessary.
We are also asking for a minimum stay of 2 or 3 nights, in order to further reduce the number of guests we have passing through.
We are asking everyone to use a common-sense approach and abide by the rules whilst at Mallard Grange. When going out and about in the area wear a face mask when appropriate and wash your hands regularly.

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
Obey Government advice and do not travel if you or anyone you have been in contact with is showing symptoms of Coronavirus. We can always re-arrange your stay for a future date. It would be a good idea to download the official NHS Track and Trace app on your mobile phone, if you do not already have one. We will try to ensure that all your booking information is completed online so that it is not necessary for you to sign in on arrival.
Car parking on site and there are hand sanitation points at all entrances - everyone must sanitise hands every time before entering. We can help with luggage if required and will show guests to their bedroom and explain the facilities on offer, without entering the bedroom.
GUEST EN SUITE BEDROOMS
Hand towels, bath sheets, sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases are professionally laundered at temperatures in excess of 60 degrees which has been proven to kill any trace of the virus. We use a local laundry company and all our laundry is delivered to us in plastic covering to ensure items are kept clean and minimise the risk of cross contamination.
Guest information folders will are in a format that can be wiped with disinfectant and information about places to eat can be found on online via our website www.mallardgrange.co.uk. If we can help with local knowledge, please do not hesitate to ask.
Each bedroom now has a silent mini fridge with complimentary fresh milk. We will ensure all crockery and glasses on the refreshments tray have been washed in a hot dishwasher and replaced between guests, even if they look as if they have not been used.
A significant change is that we will not be providing a daily bedroom housekeeping service, unless especially requested. This is to ensure that guest bedrooms are solely their personal space during their stay. Just mention at breakfast if more milk, tea/coffee bags, toilet rolls etc., are needed. We would ask you to empty your own bin each morning when necessary and leave the tied bag outside your bedroom door, together with any empty glass wine bottles or cans, for us to take away.
Breakfast is usually served in the farmhouse dining room daily between 8.30 a.m. and 9 a.m. The dining table is 3m long and 1.45m wide and can accommodate up to 6 guests at breakfast whilst maintaining the 1m social distancing measurers. We have also added 2 additional tables for 2 people in the room next door to the dining room to create additional breakfast space and maintain social distancing with 8 guests. Breakfast time slots could be spaced to stagger guests coming into the dining room if necessary.
We now also offer the option of a lighter, continental style breakfast to be brought to guest bedrooms. We would simply knock on the bedroom door at a pre-arranged time with a breakfast basket.
There has also been changes to the dressing and layout of our breakfast table; paper napkins replace our linen ones; butter portions are wrapped; each room place setting has sugar, marmalade, jams and honey, replacing the shared condiments and jams etc.
We have decided to keep our breakfast buffet but would ask guests to use the hand sanitizer provided before making serving themselves from the cereals and fruit etc. available.
We will take breakfast food and beverage orders observing a 1m distance, all the team here wear transparent face masks during breakfast service.
Mallard Grange has achieved a 5 Star Food Hygiene Rating (which is the highest rating) and has high standards of cleanliness and food safety.
Local restaurants and country inns are open with social distancing measures in place and our guests have enjoyed eating out again. We hope that guests will eat out and support these local small businesses, however, light cold snacks and sandwiches etc, can be brought back to eat in your room, if preferred.
CHECK OUT & PAYMENT
Before you leave your room to check out, please open the windows for ventilation. Leave out the hair dryer or anything else you have used during your stay and leave the key in the door so everything can be sanitised.
You can pay by BACS, debit or credit card via our online payment portal or we will take cash.
FEELING UNWELL DURING YOUR STAY
Government guidance regarding a guest showing symptoms is as follows:
"If a guest is displaying signs of the Covid-19 virus while staying in overnight accommodation for a permitted reason, they should inform the accommodation provider, immediately self-isolate where they are to minimise any risk of transmission, and request a test. If they are confirmed to have Covid-19, they should return home if they reasonably can. They should use private transport but only drive themselves if they can do so safely. If a guest cannot reasonably return home (for example because they are not well enough to travel or do not have the means to arrange transport), their circumstances should be discussed with an appropriate health care professional and, if necessary, the local authority. Guests should follow government guidance on dealing with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection. Once the guest has returned to their main residence, they should continue to follow the government guidance on self-isolation, household isolation and social distancing.”
If the guest cannot return home, the guest will be expected to pay all costs.
As well as a B&B Mallard Grange is also our family home (Charles and Maggie Johnson and two sons James and William).
Our small team of helpers is made up of dedicated local ladies. We will keep temperature records of ourselves and our team daily. If any one of us, show symptoms, test positive or need to self-isolate, we may need to cancel your booking at short notice. If this should happen, we will arrange alternative dates for another stay.
If Government issues additional guidance measurers our policy will be revised as necessary.
